Mega Moolah – The Legend Behind the Name
Some names just stay with you. Mega Moolah is one of them. When Microgaming launched this game in 2006, they probably didn't imagine it would one day become the world's most iconic casino slot. But the record books tell a different story.
Since Mega Moolah launched on LuckyWheel, it has quickly become a favourite among Bangladeshi players. The game is set against an African savanna backdrop, with reels featuring iconic wildlife — lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and giraffes. Rolling green plains stretch into the horizon, dotted with acacia trees silhouetted against the sky. The whole atmosphere is genuinely stunning.
But bigger than the theme is the jackpot structure. Mega Moolah doesn't just offer one progressive jackpot — it offers four separate ones: Mega, Major, Minor, and Mini. The Mega jackpot starts at a minimum of $1 million and keeps climbing until someone wins it. In 2018, one player bet just 25 pence and walked away with £17.87 million — a feat officially recognised as a Guinness World Record.
How Is the Jackpot Triggered?
Winning the jackpot in Mega Moolah works differently from most slots. You don't hit a jackpot by landing a specific symbol combination on the reels. Instead, at any point during a spin, a special Jackpot Bonus Game can be randomly triggered. It's inside that bonus game where your jackpot fate is decided.
The bonus game features a special spinning wheel divided into colored segments. Yellow segments hold the Mega Jackpot, red the Major, blue the Minor, and white the Mini. The remaining segments read "SPIN AGAIN" — land on one of these and you get another spin. One key thing to know: once you enter the bonus game, you are guaranteed to walk away with one of the four jackpots.
The probability of triggering the bonus game is tied to your bet size — the more you bet, the better your chances. That said, smaller bets don't rule you out entirely. History has shown plenty of cases where players have hit the Mega Jackpot from a modest stake.
African Safari Symbols & Payouts
The base game features 5 reels and 25 paylines. Each symbol carries its own payout value. The Lion is the most valuable animal symbol — land five Lions on a payline and you'll win 15,000x your bet. Next come the Elephant (12,500×), Buffalo (10,000×), Leopard (7,500×), and Giraffe (5,000×).
The Wild symbol is the word "Wild" set against a sunset backdrop. It substitutes for any other symbol and doubles your payout. The Scatter symbol is the Monkey — land three or more Monkeys anywhere on the reels to trigger Free Spins.
Playing Mega Moolah on LuckyWheel
Getting started with Mega Moolah on LuckyWheel is straightforward. Log in to your account, head to the "Jackpot Slots" section, and you'll find the game right near the top. A live jackpot counter is displayed so you can see exactly how much the Mega Jackpot stands at that moment.
The mobile experience is just as good. On both Android and iOS, the graphics and animations are identical to the desktop version. The game runs smoothly even on a 3G connection, as LuckyWheel's servers are optimised for Bangladesh's network conditions.
Mega Moolah has an autoplay feature, but always set a loss limit before activating it. This ensures autoplay stops automatically once you've lost a set amount. For broader budget management, make use of LuckyWheel's Responsible Gaming tools.
Mega Moolah's Biggest Wins in History
Some wins in Mega Moolah's history are truly hard to believe. In 2015, a Canadian player scooped €13.2 million. In 2016, a British soldier won £13.2 million on mobile — a world record at the time. Then in 2018, a 25-pence bet produced a £17.87 million win, a record that still stands as the largest online slots jackpot ever paid out.
Hearing these stories, it's easy to think, "That could never happen to me." But the real beauty of a progressive jackpot is that it's completely random. Winning a massive jackpot from a small bet is never out of the question. Regular players on LuckyWheel appreciate exactly that possibility.
